We are currently accepting applications for a hotel front desk concierge position at the Inn at the Michigan League. The Inn is a 21-room public hotel owned and operated by the University of Michigan. The front desk concierge staff is responsible for providing excellent customer service to all of our hotel guests.

Daily duties include:
Guest check-ins and check-outs
Assisting guests with reservations
Answering phone calls and emails
Providing directions and information about campus and the Ann Arbor area
Communicating with building staff (custodial, maintenance, and event set-up) and front desk colleagues

We are looking for a student who is professional and detail-oriented, has great communication skills, and can effectively problem-solve under pressure. The applicant should be proficient in G Suite and Microsoft Office. The ideal candidate has experience in both customer service and cash-handling.

We are looking for an individual with flexible work hours who can work 4-6 hour shifts including some weekends (this will include three overnight shifts per semester and football weekends). There are opportunities to get extra hours if you want them.

Dean of Students Office Assistant and Parents & Family Weekend Program Assistant

Basic Job Function

This role is divided between providing general support to the activities and programs in the Dean of Students Office and providing direct support to the coordination of Parents & Family Weekend.

The Dean of Students Office promotes student development and enhances students’ Michigan experience through programs, services, partnerships/connections, and policy development that promotes an inclusive campus climate and facilitates the successful navigation of campus life.

Parents & Family Weekend (PFW) is a program within the Dean of Students Office and Division of Student Life designed to provide parents and families with the opportunity to visit their Michigan student and experience campus life. It is a weekend filled with performances, athletic events, exhibits, and more. PFW occurs in October or November.

Responsibilities

Administrative:
● Assist in creation and maintenance of office files and databases
● Regularly review media U-M (Social Media, Michigan Daily) for current trends, topics, etc.
● Maintain accurate calendars for Associate and Assistant Deans, Critical Incident staff, and other staff members in the Dean of Students Office
● Pick up, sort, and distribute mail
● Manage ongoing and immediate projects in support of Expect Respect, Bias Incident Prevention and Response, Beyond the Diag, the Blavin Scholars Program, and/or the Dean of Students Advisory Board
● Produce and edit documents
● Maintain inventory of office supplies
● Maintain a neat and presentable work area
● Provide back-up support for Administrative Assistant
● Other duties as assigned

Customer Service:
● Welcome guests to the Dean of Students suite and triage appropriately
● Provide excellent, timely, and sensitive customer service in a fast-paced and private environment
● Answer a multi-line telephone; take detailed and accurate messages and communicate them effectively with appropriate staff member
● Handle communications, information, and data with sensitivity and privacy

Parents & Family Weekend - Minimum of 5 hours per week (will fluctuate at certain times of the year) Ongoing Responsibilities:

Position Description:

The Center for Campus Involvement (CCI) is a dynamic, student focused department which oversees two student program councils and their committees in planning and coordinating cultural, social, educational and recreational programs.  Such programs include art exhibits, concerts, lectures, cultural showcases, films, student performances, workshops, dances, arts and crafts, late-night activities, and welcome week events.  Our students implement over 300 programs each year.  In addition CCI also advises the 1400 student organizations on campus and manages the Student Theatre Arts Complex (STAC), the Student Organization Resource Center (SORC) and the Michigan Union Billiards & Games Room.  It is through these programs and services that our focus is to provide learning and development opportunities for students. 

CCI provides programming and services across three separate student union facilities (Michigan Union, Michigan League, Pierpont Commons), each with its own unique history. CCI is currently seeking students who are interested in working as a Program Assistant.

The Program Assistant position provides students the opportunity to learn and develop in the areas of: leadership, creativity & innovation, project management, communication, and social justice.

Position Responsibilities

  • Create, plan, develop, promote, and implement student events and programs as assigned by a CCI Program Advisor

  • Manage specific program area (i.e. lectures, student performances, workshops, late night) and assist with other programs and projects as needed
  • Attend weekly required meetings of the assigned Program Team and Program Council
  • Complete marketing efforts for events and oversee event logistics from conception to implementation
  • Coordinate programs across the University Unions facilities (Michigan Union, Michigan League, Pierpont Commons)
  • Maintain regular office hours in the Center for Campus Involvement

Position Qualifications: 

  • Experience in successfully developing, planning and/or hosting student-initiated activities is desire
  • Experience in customer service is a plus
  • Creativity, problem solving, flexibility, and critical thinking skills are essential for success in this position
  • Must be able to work well with a diverse team, have strong communication skills, demonstrate a positive attitude, and a strong ability to troubleshoot situations, be responsible, organized, dependable, and willing to take initiative
  • Must be willing to work evenings and weekends as dicatated by programs, and hold regular weekday office hours.

Program Assistants will work approximately 8-10 hours per week, specifically afternoons and evenings Monday through Friday, and some weekends as dictated by programs.  Starting wage is $9.00/hour with yearly increases for returning employees based on performance evaluations.  The start date for the position is September 2015.

Motor Vehicle Operator (MVO)

Position Description:

Using a university vehicle for transportation, work with a team of 4-6 other student drivers to distribute advertising items for student organizations and UM departments. Work includes distribution of tabletop signs in cafeteria areas of the Michigan Union, Michigan League, and Pierpont Commons on weekends; placement of signs on campus buses; stapling of Diag board advertisements; hanging of banners. In addition to placing these advertising media, MVOs are also responsible for delivering balloons, care packages containing food items, and sometimes helium tanks. Work also includes basic maintenance of van and equipment. This is a joint position with Clerk C, totaling 10-12 hours a week.

 Requirements:

  • Applicants must have a good driving record and valid driver license
  • Availability on weekends between 10AM-2PM Sundays, Monday evenings, plus at least one weekday balloon/care package delivery shift (flexible based on your class schedule)
  • Thoroughness; willingness to cooperate on unexpected tasks; flexibility and problem solving skills; occasional availability for unusual delivery hours; availability regardless of inclement weather
  • Preference given to sophomores due to extensive training required for Clerk C appointment
  • At least one semester of experience as a Clerk C is desired. This is a dual appointment with Clerk C
