The Center for Campus Involvement (CCI) in University Unions within Student Life at the University
of Michigan is a dynamic, student-focused department that serves all undergraduate and graduate
students through student programs, student services, and student development. Through
meaningful involvement, CCI creates transformative experiences, a vibrant community, and lifelong
memories for University of Michigan students. CCI recognizes and supports over 1,400 student
organizations through education, advising, advocacy and services. CCI also implements hundreds of
social, educational, cultural, and recreational programs each year, focused on building community
within and beyond University Unions’ facilities.
About the Position: CCI is looking to hire a student employee to assist the Manager for Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion in their efforts to provide strategic leadership and consultation to maximize student success across the three functional areas of the office – Student Development, Student Programs, and Campus Resources. This will be congruent with strengthening the overall Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion plan for Student Life. This will be accomplished by using best practice and data-driven decision-making to strengthen the capacity of existing initiatives that foster identity awareness, cultural and ally competence, student organization leadership development, student access to involvement resources and opportunities, and a more inclusive campus climate.
Hours: 10-12 hrs/wk
Undergraduate Pay: $11/hour
Expected End Date: May 2022 (with the possibility of renewal for the following academic year)
Supervised by: Graduate Intern, Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion
The student position will work to help embed effective DEI initiatives, practices, and services throughout Student Life with a specific focus on increased engagement with resources to support students’ experiencing bias and challenges associated with campus climate within CCI. This role will work with the Graduate Intern and Manager for Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion to integrate DEI resources and education in tailored ways that will be meaningful for different student communities. This tailored approach will build unique, yet connected, programs and services intentionally guiding students through learning pathways. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
Collaborating with their supervisor to develop and implement workshop and program content for staff and students that focuses on social justice topics.
Assisting with reviewing assessment data to identify trends and areas of improvement for CCI to provide more equitable resources to students.
Support engagement with University Unions art initiatives related to diversity, equity, and inclusion.
Provide programming related to diversity, equity, and inclusion for all University of Michigan students.
While the aforementioned duties are the priority, this position is expected to be available and willing to perform other duties necessary to the effective functioning of CCI as a whole.
Enrolled as a student for the 2021-2022 academic year.
Particular, or increasing, familiarity with social identities, social justice, and U-M campus climate.
Must be attentive to detail, reliable, and able to meet deadlines.
Exercise strong interpersonal skills -- ability to represent the office in contacts and communications with office clientele and to communicate effectively with other constituents.
Highly organized, self-motivated, responsible, and able to take direction and work independently.
Be team oriented and comfortable delivering workshops and speaking in public.
Demonstrated experience in drafting formal reports and presentations.
