Member of team that directly engages with both student organization leadership and UM departments to provide payment guidance, educate students on SOAS and University policies, and guide them on accounting best practices. Responsibilities range from performing typical daily tasks to solving unique problems as they occur. Student team utilizes SOAS email address and comprehensive Google Sheets to manage over 15 different aspects of student organization financial activity. Student will work with numerous UM departments to place holds on accounts, check balances, and investigate transactions. SOAS team members work daily with student leaders to assign Authorized Signers, manage deficit accounts, and provide guidance on SOAS processes. Both accurate and detailed communication, internally and externally, are essential to successfully completing responsibilities as there are a lot of moving parts to our office.

Student employees will gain real-world office experience and learn successful account managing skills, while also cultivating a refined customer service skill set. Student employees will gain a comprehensive understanding of the University’s financial architecture, as well as the opportunity to interact with members of Michigan’s 1,500+ student organizations and 2000+ accounts. Due to the diversity of student organizations, students will rarely encounter the same situation twice, allowing a student to develop confidence in their problem solving skills. Students will encounter numerous unique issues that allow them to develop confidence in their problem solving and critical thinking skills.

Required: Must be able to start working (training) in late August or early September. Strong detail-oriented skills, ability to multi-task, customer service experience, ability to concisely explain complex systems and processes, basic accounting skills, and proficiency in Microsoft Office and Google platforms. Must be able to work a minimum of 10 hours per week.
