As supervisors and managers, we contribute to the college experience -- outside of the classroom. We have a responsibility to provide the guidance and personal development to each of our student employees. Your engagement and commitment to teach student employees, and help them build relationships is essential for the success of the GOAL program. It’s also essential for our student employees.
PROCESS: AT A GLANCE
Step 1 → Student Assessment + Reflection
Within the first month of the academic year or hire, student employees will take a self competency assessment administered through Campus Labs. From there, they will be directed to answer 4-5 reflective questions related to their goals for the upcoming year using Canvas.
Step 2 → Meet with Student(s): What are you hoping to achieve?
Once students have completed the initial assessment and reflection questionnaire, supervisors will schedule a 10-15 minute meeting with students (supervisors with a large number of student employees can meet in groups no larger than 8 students). Before they meet with the student(s), supervisors should review the results of the GOAL assessment and have a conversation based upon the student’s responses. Meetings should be completed by October 31st.
Step 3 → Casual Check-In’s
Supervisor will touch base with student employees 2-3 times throughout the academic year to ensure positive relationships are maintained and progress toward goals are monitored.
Step 4 → Meet with Student(s): What was learned?
Beginning in March, supervisors will schedule a 10-15 minute meeting with students (supervisors with a large number of student employees can meet in groups no larger than 8 students). During this meeting, supervisors will ask 4-5 questions designed to help students reflect on what was learned in their employment role and to discuss progress toward the goals they set at the beginning of the year.
Step 5 → Student Assessment + Reflection
Once students have had their final meeting with their supervisor, they will be instructed to take a final self competency assessment through Campus Labs.
